Shetland can boast arguably some of the finest livestock in Scotland. In September and October the Shetland Rural Centre springs to life with one of the busiest sales calendars. Whether you are a producer or a buyer interested in livestock, you can be guaranteed of a very rewarding visit.

Over 100,000 prime and store Suffolk, Cheviot and Shetland lambs are exported each year along with thousands of breeding ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs. These breeding ewes are proficient Shetland/Cheviot cross ewes renowned for fecundity, mothering attributes and resultant quality of lambs. Moreover, these sheep are hardy with an excellent food conversion ratio once brought onto mainland pastures. Cattle from Shetland, bred from quality bulls, are also renowned for their growth potential. Over 1000 cattle are shipped each season including breeds of both continental and UK native origin.
